What Moves the Price

  • Service size and condition: a 100-amp home that needs 200 amps for an EV charger or heat pump is a service upgrade, not just a panel swap
  • Distance and access: wire runs through a finished attic, a block wall or a long driveway cost more than a short run in a garage
  • Utility involvement: meter and service work requires a scheduled disconnect with TECO, Duke, Lakeland Electric or FPL
  • Code upgrades the inspector will require: AFCI and GFCI protection, a surge protector on a new service, an outdoor emergency disconnect, grounding and bonding corrections
  • Generator fuel and size: gas-line work, concrete pad and transfer switch size drive standby costs; the generator itself drives portable costs
  • Coastal exposure: stainless and corrosion-resistant hardware on waterfront and dock jobs

Every one of these is something we identify on the first visit and put in writing. The number you approve is the number you pay.

Panel Upgrades and Replacements

The most common big-ticket job in Tampa Bay, and the one with the widest range, because "panel" can mean three different things. A like-for-like replacement of a failed or insurance-flagged panel at the same amperage, with the existing service entrance left alone, is the least expensive. A 200-amp service upgrade replaces the meter base, the service entrance conductors, the main disconnect and the panel, and requires a utility disconnect and a county inspection; that is the job most homes with an EV charger, a heat pump or a pool on the way actually need. A relocation, for example moving a panel out of a closet or a bathroom where the current code does not allow it, adds wire and drywall work. In every case the inspector will expect current-code items: a surge protective device, AFCI and GFCI protection on the circuits the code covers, an outdoor emergency disconnect on a new service, and correct grounding and bonding. We price all of that into the quote instead of discovering it at inspection.

Generators

Portable generator packages are priced by the inlet amperage (30A or 50A), the distance from the inlet to the panel, and whether you choose a manual transfer switch (more flexible, more expensive) or a listed interlock kit (less expensive, requires a compatible panel). The generator itself is separate, and as a DuroMax Authorized Dealer we quote it alongside the install. Standby generators are priced by kilowatt size, by the gas work (a natural-gas meter upgrade or a propane tank and line), by the pad, and by the transfer switch. Gas-line work by a licensed gas contractor and the county's separate gas permit are real parts of the number, and we coordinate both. EV Chargers

A Level 2 charger on a dedicated 40 to 60 amp circuit in a garage that sits next to the panel is a short, inexpensive job. The same charger on the far side of the house, through the attic, with a panel that has no spare capacity, can require a load-management device or a service upgrade, and the price follows. We do a load calculation on every EV quote because the worst outcome is a charger that trips the main the first hot night the air conditioner and the dryer are running. Hardwired installs cost a little more than a NEMA 14-50 outlet but avoid a receptacle that is not rated for continuous charging. Rewiring and Aluminum Wiring

A whole-house rewire is priced by the number of circuits and devices, the square footage, and above all by access: a single-story block home with an open attic is far less work than a two-story home with finished ceilings and no attic over the first floor. Florida block construction means many circuits run through the attic and down inside furred walls, and we plan routes to keep drywall repair to a minimum. Aluminum branch wiring in 1965 to 1975 homes usually does not require a full rewire; remediation with listed AlumiConn or COPALUM connectors at every device and splice, combined with a panel evaluation, satisfies most insurers at a fraction of the cost. Lighting, Fans, Outlets and Circuits

Smaller jobs are priced per item, and the range depends on whether a box and wiring already exist. A ceiling fan on an existing fan-rated box, a fixture swap, or replacing a worn outlet are quick. Adding a fan where there was only a light, which needs a fan-rated box and often a new switch leg; adding recessed cans to a ceiling with no attic access; or running a new dedicated circuit from a full panel take more time and sometimes a breaker change. We bundle: several fans, a row of recessed cans or a few new circuits in one visit cost meaningfully less per item than separate trips, which is why we ask what else is on your list when you call.

Emergency and After-Hours Work

We answer 24 hours a day. After-hours calls carry a modest premium that we tell you about on the phone before anyone drives, and true emergencies, a burning smell, a dead panel, storm damage to a service mast, a flooded panel, get priority. What we do not do is invent emergencies or sell a panel at 2 AM. If the safe move is to shut a circuit off and fix it properly in daylight, we will say so.

Why do you publish price ranges instead of exact prices?

Because the honest answer depends on the house: panel location, wire runs, attic access, whether the utility has to disconnect, and what the inspector will require. We publish real Tampa Bay ranges so you can budget, then quote a firm number on site before any work starts.

Do you charge by the hour or by the job?

By the job. You get a firm price for the defined scope before we start, and it does not change unless we uncover a genuine hidden condition, which we show you first.

Are estimates free?

Estimates on installations (panels, generators, EV chargers, rewires, lighting, new construction) are free. Troubleshooting visits carry a modest diagnostic fee that is credited toward the repair.

Is a permit included in the price?

Yes. Where a permit is required, the permit fee, the paperwork and the inspection are built into our quote.
