How to Verify Our License in 60 Seconds

Go to the Florida DBPR license search at myfloridalicense.com, choose "Search by License Number", and enter EC13013571. You will see the license type (Certified Electrical Contractor, which is valid statewide rather than in a single county), its status and its expiration. We encourage every customer to do this for any electrician they consider, including us.

Why an "EC" License Matters

Florida has two kinds of electrical contractor licenses. A registered (ER) license is limited to specific counties. A certified (EC) license, which is what we hold, requires passing the state exam, proving experience and financial responsibility, and carrying insurance, and it is valid in every jurisdiction in Florida. It is the license that lets us pull permits in Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Manatee counties and in every city inside them.

Insurance

We carry general liability and the coverage Florida requires of licensed electrical contractors. If you would like a certificate of insurance for an HOA, a property manager or a commercial landlord, ask and we will send it. Insurance matters for a simple reason: if an uninsured worker is hurt on your property, or uninsured work damages it, the claim can land on your homeowner's policy. With a licensed and insured contractor, it does not.

Permits and Inspections, Every Time

Unpermitted electrical work is the most common reason a 4-point inspection fails, a home sale stalls, or an insurance claim after a fire is denied. We pull permits for panel changes, service upgrades, generators, EV chargers, new circuits, rewires and remodels, and we schedule and attend the inspection. It is built into the price, not added later.

What Happens When You Hire an Unlicensed Electrician

Florida takes unlicensed contracting seriously, and so do insurance carriers. Work done without a license cannot be permitted, which means it was never inspected, which means the first person to look at it closely will be a home inspector during your sale or an insurance adjuster after a fire. Under Florida Statute 489, a contract with an unlicensed contractor is unenforceable by the contractor, homeowners who knowingly hire one can lose the protection of their policy, and the State can issue cease-and-desist orders and fines. Practically, the most common outcomes we see are a failed 4-point inspection that forces a panel replacement on a deadline, a buyer who walks, or a "handyman" panel change that leaves the home without a proper grounding electrode, bonded neutral or working AFCI and GFCI protection.

The fix for all of it is the same: ask for the license number, verify it on the DBPR site, and ask who is pulling the permit. A licensed contractor will answer all three without hesitation. Ours are EC13013571, verify it above, and we pull the permit.

Why Permits Protect You, Not the County

A permit is a second set of trained eyes on the most dangerous system in your house. When we change a panel, upgrade a service, install a generator transfer switch or add a 50-amp EV circuit, a county or city inspector checks the work against the National Electrical Code as adopted in the Florida Building Code. If a contractor tells you a permit is "not necessary" for that kind of work, they are telling you they do not want the inspection. The permit fee is a small line on the invoice; the record it creates follows the house forever and is exactly what an insurer or a buyer's inspector wants to see.

• What is your Florida license number, and is it an EC (certified, statewide) or ER (registered, county-limited) license?
• Who pulls the permit, and will you schedule and attend the inspection?
• Are you insured, and can you send a certificate of insurance before the work starts?
• Is the price firm before work begins, and what would change it?
• Who is actually doing the work, employees or subcontractors?
• Can I read your reviews somewhere you do not control, such as Google, BBB or Yelp?

Insurance Inspections: 4-Point and Wind Mitigation

If your home is more than 25 or 30 years old, your insurer will eventually ask for a 4-point inspection covering the roof, plumbing, HVAC and electrical. The electrical section asks for the panel brand, the service amperage, the wiring type, evidence of double-tapped breakers, aluminum branch wiring, Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Challenger or Sylvania panels, and any visible hazards. A failed electrical section can mean a non-renewal, and the clock the carrier gives you is usually short. We do the corrective work these inspections demand every week: panel replacements, service upgrades, aluminum wiring remediation with approved connectors, GFCI and AFCI protection, grounding and bonding, and cleanup of unpermitted work. When the repair is done we provide photos and the permit record so the inspector or carrier can close the file.
