About Lightning Bay Electric
Power You Can Trust. A family of Tampa Bay electricians who would rather earn the next call than win the first one.
A Family Business, Not a Franchise
Lightning Bay Electric is a family-owned and operated electrical contractor based in Tampa, Florida. Owner Michael Tracy has spent over 18 years in the trade, working residential, commercial and industrial jobs across Tampa Bay before putting the family name on a company of its own. The crew, including Jose and Sam, whose names come up by name in our Google reviews, are Florida locals who grew up here and know what lightning, salt air, hurricane season and 1970s aluminum wiring do to a house.
When you call, you reach a person who can actually answer an electrical question. One customer wrote that Mike solved their problem over the phone and did not charge them for it. Another, who manages 42 properties, wrote that we are "always prompt, reliable, and available whenever we need them." That is the reputation we are protecting on every job.
What We Stand On
- Licensed and insured: Florida Certified Electrical Contractor EC13013571, valid statewide, fully insured, BBB accredited. Verify it here.
- Honest pricing: diagnosis first, a firm price before work starts, and the cheaper fix when the cheaper fix is right.
- Permits on every job that needs one: because unpermitted work is what fails inspections and voids insurance.
- Communication: we explain the why in plain English, and we show up when we say we will.
- 24-hour service: electrical emergencies do not keep office hours, and neither do we.
- DuroMax Authorized Dealer and Installer: plus Generac and Kohler standby installs, so storm prep is one phone call.
Residential, Commercial and Industrial
Most of our days are spent in Tampa Bay homes: panel upgrades, EV chargers, generators, lighting, rewiring, inspection repairs. But the same crew wires new construction and remodels, builds out restaurants and venues, installs EVgo fast chargers, runs 3-phase power for industrial equipment and keeps property-management portfolios running. Look through our job photos and you will see all of it.
How a Job With Us Actually Goes
It starts with a phone call or a message, and it starts with listening. Several of our reviews describe the owner diagnosing a problem from a description and a photo before anyone drove anywhere, and in at least one case solving it over the phone for free. If a visit is needed, we show up when we said we would, look at the whole picture instead of just the symptom, and explain what we found in plain English. You get a firm price before any work starts. If the job needs a permit, we pull it. When we are done, the panel is labeled, the work area is clean, and you have our number for anything that comes up afterward.
For larger projects, new construction, remodels, commercial build-outs, generator and EV infrastructure, we work from drawings and load calculations, coordinate with your builder, HVAC contractor, gas company and the utility, and sequence the rough-in, inspections and trim so you are never waiting on the electrician. Property managers get one number to call and a crew that already knows their buildings.
Why Tampa Bay Specifically Needs a Good Electrician
This region is hard on electrical systems in ways a lot of the country never deals with. We sit in the lightning capital of North America, so surge damage to appliances and electronics is routine, not rare. Hurricane season means multi-day outages, which is why generator work is such a large part of what we do. Salt air along the bay and the Gulf corrodes panels, meter cans and dock wiring. And the housing stock runs from 1920s bungalows in Seminole Heights and Ybor, through the 1960s and 1970s block homes full of Federal Pacific panels and aluminum branch wiring, to 1990s subdivisions built with 100-amp services that cannot carry an EV charger and a heat pump, to brand-new construction in Riverview, Wesley Chapel and Lakewood Ranch. Knowing which era you are standing in, and what the insurer's 4-point inspector will flag, is half the job.
The Brands We Trust
We are an authorized dealer and installer for DuroMax portable, dual-fuel and tri-fuel generators and install Generac and Kohler automatic standby systems. For panels and breakers we install Square D, Eaton and Siemens. For EV charging we install Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint, Emporia, JuiceBox and Wallbox units, and commercial DC fast chargers for network operators. For surge protection we use panel-mounted, UL 1449 listed Type 2 devices from Eaton, Siemens and Square D. We choose equipment based on how it holds up in Florida humidity and how easy it is to get parts for in five years, not on who sends the nicest catalog.

Our Work

In Our Customers' Words
Michael at Lightning Bay Electric did a great job from initial consultation to work completion. The whole team was professional, took their time, and handled multiple different jobs on the same day. The work is outstanding and the price more than fair. Will be using again.
Exceptional work. The techs were amazing. Diligent, polite, offered advice and cleaned up when they were done. The kitchen and dining room lights look spectacular. The lanai fans perfectly installed. Finally the under cabinet lighting was the frosting on the cake, controlled remotely and multiple lighting variations. It looks fantastic in the evening. Thank you Lightning Bay Electric for a first class experience from start to finish.
Mike helped me with inspection repairs for the selling of my house. Upon discovering improperly installed equipment still under warranty, he talked me through why it was wrong and how to get it replaced. His work was done quickly and with expertise. He is honest, knowledgeable, and fair. I highly recommend Mike and Lightning Bay Electric for any electrical needs.
Mike is an exceptional person to work with. He genuinely understands his customers' needs. Jose, the electrician, did an excellent job on my panel replacement. I want to express my gratitude to both of you. I will highly recommend your company to everyone I know.
I recently hired Lightning Bay Electrical for home electrical repairs, and I'm thrilled with the experience. The owner, Michael, was exceptionally responsive when I reached out via Facebook. He promptly addressed my questions with professionalism. His expertise eliminated the need for a pre-site visit, as he quickly assessed the issue from my description and photos, saving valuable time compared to other companies that often require in-person evaluations. Michael reviewed my repair list and a photo of the issue, identifying a hard-to-find replacement part that ensured the job was done right. He scheduled the work swiftly, fitting my tight timeline, and his crew Sam and Jose, arrived on time, fully prepared. They were courteous, efficient, and left the work area impeccably clean, demonstrating their commitment to quality. I'm incredibly pleased with Michael's support and the outstanding work by his team. Lightning Bay Electrical is a dependable, top-tier choice for anyone in the Tampa area needing electrical services.
