Three-phase power is the backbone of industrial equipment because it delivers smooth, efficient power to motors and allows smaller conductors for the same load. If your building has single-phase service and you are bringing in a 3-phase machine, the first question is whether TECO or Duke Energy has 3-phase available on your street. If so, we coordinate a new service: the utility's requirements for the service entrance, the meter and CT cabinet, the main disconnect and the distribution panel, sized by a load calculation for the equipment you have and the equipment you plan to add. If 3-phase is not available, a rotary phase converter for a single machine or a VFD that accepts single-phase input and produces 3-phase output for a motor are both practical options, and we will tell you honestly which fits.

Distribution inside the building is where most long-term problems are prevented. We install panels and feeders with capacity for growth, label every circuit, and install disconnects within sight of each machine as the NEC requires. Bus duct and cable tray make sense in shops where equipment moves; conduit makes sense where it does not. We design around how your floor actually operates, and we document it so the next electrician, or the next owner, can understand it.

Disconnects, Motor Controls and Machinery Circuits

Every piece of industrial equipment starts with its nameplate: voltage, phase, full-load amps, and for motors, the service factor and code letter. From that, NEC Article 430 determines the conductor size, the overcurrent protection, the disconnect rating and the overload protection for the motor. Getting it right means the machine runs for years; getting it wrong means nuisance tripping, overheated wire or a motor that is not protected when it stalls. We install fused disconnects and safety switches sized and fused correctly, motor starters and contactors with properly set overloads, and VFDs programmed for the motor and the application, including the line reactors and shielded cable that keep a drive from polluting the rest of your building's power.

Can you bring 3-phase power to my building?

If 3-phase is available from TECO or Duke Energy on your street, we coordinate the new service, install the meter base, disconnect and distribution, and run the feeders.
