Indoor, Outdoor, Landscape & Recessed Lighting in Tampa, FL
Recessed cans, kitchen pendants, under-cabinet strips, landscape and security lighting, designed and installed by licensed electricians.
Our shop sits just east of downtown off the Crosstown and I-4, so a Tampa service call is a short hop for our trucks, not a cross-county trip. Same-day panel, generator and emergency work across the city is our daily routine.
When a Tampa homeowner searches for indoor, outdoor, landscape & recessed lighting, the choice usually comes down to a big regional franchise with a call center or a local family company you can actually reach. Lightning Bay Electric is the second kind. Our shop in Tampa is roughly 10 minutes from Seminole Heights and Tampa Heights, the owner answers the phone, and license EC13013571 is on every permit we pull.
Tampa's housing runs from 1920s bungalows in Seminole Heights and Hyde Park to 1950s-70s block homes in Forest Hills and East Tampa, and a huge share of those still carry fuse boxes, Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels, cloth-insulated or aluminum branch wiring, and two-prong ungrounded outlets. Add the wave of 2000s-2020s townhomes and infill builds with 150A or 200A builder panels that were never sized for an EV charger, a heat pump and a hot tub at once, and Tampa is panel-upgrade and rewiring country. Most Tampa homes built before 2000 need a passing 4-point inspection to get or keep a homeowners policy, and a flagged panel brand or ungrounded wiring is the most common reason carriers decline, so we do the corrections inspectors look for.
Indoor, Outdoor, Landscape & Recessed Lighting in Tampa is permitted through Hillsborough County Development Services (or City of Tampa Construction Services inside city limits), and where the utility is involved, for example on a service upgrade, a meter change or a standby generator, we coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with TECO (Tampa Electric). Handling that paperwork and scheduling is part of the job, not an extra, and it is what makes the work legal, insurable and inspection-passed when you sell.
If you are in Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights, Hyde Park, Davis Islands or anywhere else in Tampa, and you want indoor, outdoor, landscape & recessed lighting done by a licensed, insured, family-owned crew that is practically around the corner, call (813) 897-2665 or request an estimate online. We also serve Ybor City, South Tampa, Palm River-Clair Mel and every community in Hillsborough County.

Lanai, Pool Cage and Outdoor Living Lighting
In Tampa Bay the lanai is a room, and it deserves to be lit like one. A screened pool cage or covered lanai used for dinners, television and evenings by the pool needs the same layered approach as an interior space, executed with wet-rated fixtures and GFCI-protected circuits. We install wet-rated recessed lights in the lanai ceiling, outdoor-rated ceiling fans with lights on fan-rated boxes, wall sconces beside doors, and low-voltage LED tape along the cage frame or under a bar counter. Everything goes on dimmers so the space can go from bright enough to cook to soft enough to sit by the water. Outdoor televisions and sound systems get dedicated, protected outlets placed where the cords disappear.
Pool cages have a particular lighting challenge, because the screen structure itself casts shadows and because fixtures inside a cage get wet every time it rains sideways, which in summer is daily. We specify fixtures rated for wet locations rather than damp, run wiring in conduit along the cage frame where it is protected, and use warm white or amber LED where bugs are a concern, since insects are far less attracted to light below 3000K. Cage-mounted string lights, the kind that make a backyard feel like a restaurant patio, get a proper dedicated switched outlet rather than an extension cord to the nearest plug.
Beyond the lanai, outdoor kitchens need circuits for the grill igniter, refrigerator, ice maker and outlets, and anything near the pool falls under the clearance and GFCI rules covered on our pool electrical page. Docks and seawalls get their own lighting rules. Planning all of it together, ideally before a cage or lanai is built or rescreened, is cheaper and cleaner than adding pieces one at a time, and we are happy to work from your pool builder's or contractor's plans.
Let's Light Your Home

Lighting Is the Upgrade You Notice Every Single Day
Of all the improvements a homeowner can make, lighting delivers the most change per dollar. A kitchen with a single dated flush-mount fixture and a dark island becomes a different room with six well-placed recessed lights, three pendants and under-cabinet strips on dimmers. A front yard that disappears at dusk becomes a welcoming entry with path lights and uplights on the palms. A lanai that nobody uses after dark becomes the best room in the house. Lightning Bay Electric designs and installs interior, exterior and landscape lighting for homes across Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Manatee counties.
We are a family owned and operated electrical contractor, licensed by the Florida DBPR under EC13013571, and lighting is some of our favorite work because it is visible and the homeowner gets to enjoy it immediately. The kitchen remodel lighting in our gallery, the pendants and recessed cans in Riverview and the globe pendants with under-cabinet lighting in a white Tampa kitchen, are real projects we completed. We also handle the commercial side, including the restaurant and venue accent lighting in Tampa shown on our commercial page.
Recessed Lighting Done Right
Recessed lighting is the backbone of modern interior lighting, and the details matter more than people expect. Spacing is the first one: a general rule is to divide the ceiling height by two to get the spacing between lights, so an 8 foot ceiling wants lights about 4 feet apart, and lights should sit 2 to 3 feet off the walls to avoid scalloping. Too few lights leaves dark pockets; too many looks like an airport runway. The second detail is the fixture itself. We install slim, canless LED wafer lights that fit between trusses and in shallow ceilings, and IC-rated housings where there is insulation contact, which is almost everywhere in a Florida attic.
Color temperature is the detail that makes or breaks the look. For living spaces and kitchens with warm wood tones we recommend 2700K to 3000K; for white kitchens and bathrooms 3000K to 3500K reads clean and bright without feeling clinical. Whatever you choose, keep it consistent across a room and adjoining rooms. Selectable-temperature fixtures let us dial this in on site. We put every group of lights on a quality LED-compatible dimmer, because the ability to take a kitchen from bright work light to soft dinner light is what makes the room feel finished. For remodels we coordinate with your cabinet and drywall trades; see our remodel electrical page for how that sequencing works.
Indoor, Outdoor, Landscape & Recessed Lighting, What It Looks Like

5-Star Rated Across Hillsborough County and Tampa Bay
Michael at Lightning Bay Electric did a great job from initial consultation to work completion. The whole team was professional, took their time, and handled multiple different jobs on the same day. The work is outstanding and the price more than fair. Will be using again.
Exceptional work. The techs were amazing. Diligent, polite, offered advice and cleaned up when they were done. The kitchen and dining room lights look spectacular. The lanai fans perfectly installed. Finally the under cabinet lighting was the frosting on the cake, controlled remotely and multiple lighting variations. It looks fantastic in the evening. Thank you Lightning Bay Electric for a first class experience from start to finish.
Highly recommend Lightning Bay Electric, excellent communication and easy to work with. Jose L. was very detailed and took his time to make sure our light was perfect!!

We are a family-owned, Florida-licensed electrical contractor (EC13013571) based in Tampa, about 10 minutes away.
How fast can an electrician get to Tampa?
Quickly. Tampa is 10 minutes or so from our shop, so same-day and next-day scheduling is normal, and true emergencies (burning smells, a dead panel, storm damage) get a 24-hour response, seven days a week.
Do I need a permit for indoor, outdoor, landscape & recessed lighting in Tampa?
In most cases yes, and we pull it for you through Hillsborough County Development Services (or City of Tampa Construction Services inside city limits). Permitted, inspected work protects your homeowner's insurance, passes a 4-point inspection and avoids problems when you sell. Small like-for-like repairs such as swapping a switch or outlet generally do not need one.
What does indoor, outdoor, landscape & recessed lighting cost in Tampa?
The same honest pricing we charge everywhere in Tampa Bay. We diagnose first, explain the options, and give you a firm price before work starts. Estimates on installations are free; troubleshooting calls carry a modest diagnostic fee that is applied to the repair. Our Google reviews use the words "fair and honest" for a reason.
Which utility serves Tampa, and do you coordinate with them?
Most of Tampa is served by TECO (Tampa Electric). For service upgrades, meter work and standby generator installs we schedule the disconnect and reconnect with the utility so your power is off for hours, not days.
